Of the twelve operettas of Gejza Dusík, The Pottery Ball is a qualitative highlight. The theme is set in the revolutionary years 1848-1849, which are in Slovak history associated with the national Štúr movement. The story takes place in the environment of Slovak potters in the west of Slovakia. The operetta is compositionally well worked-out and enriched with Slovak folklore. It premiered on the stage of the Košice State Theatre in 1956 and later it was performed in almost all Slovak theatres, even abroad. Today, this work belongs to the golden fund of Slovak opera production.
