Except the standard opera production is State Opera Orchestra performing independently, with ambitions to present Symphonic Concerts in the resident city Banská Bystrica, to support variety of classical music production in this region. The first remarkable success was participation in Donizetti festival in Bergamo (1993), where the State Opera Orchestra was first none Italian ensemble involved in this special event. Each year is the State Opera Orchestra performing dozens Symphonic concerts as well as concerts with lead singers (Ľubica Rybárska, Martin Babjak, Jozef Kundlák a Peter Dvorský), virtuoso pianists (Marián Lapšanský, Sylvia Čápova-Vizváryova, Zuzana Paulechova-Štiasna, Daniel Buranovský), virtuoso violinists (Václav Hudeček, Františk Novotný) and cello virtuoso Eugen Prochaz.
From the notable performances of the State Opera Orchestra has to be mentioned production of the L. van Beethoven’s IX Symphony with The Bratislava City Choir in Viennese Minoritenkirche (2000), G. Verdi’s Requiem performed in Banská Bystrica, Slovak premiere of the P. Mascagni’s Messa di Gloria in F major in collaboration with The Lúčnica Chorus Bratislava presented in Cathedral of St. Martin in Bratislava, Homage F. List 190. Birth Anniversary Concert under the Spanish conductor Gabrielle Esteban in Raiding (Austria).
Since 1999 the State Opera Orchestra collaborates with Amici del Belcanto (Austrian Opera Company), in concert opera productions La Giaconda (1999), I Masnadieri (2001), La Battaglia di Legnano (2005), Alzira (2007) and Maria Padila (2010).
The State Opera Orchestra is regularly performing Slovak composers’ works in the world premiere: V. Kubička: Lukas Evangelium (2005), M. Krajči: Post scriptum for orchestra (2006), M. Bázlik: Canticum 43 and A. Moyzes’ VIII. Symphony (Festival of The Contemporary Slovak Music in 2007), V. Godár: Under the Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom (contemporary opera, 2008), E. Suchoň: Krútňava/The Whirlpool (2008), first time since premiere in 1949, was opera performed in original version.
It is also important to mention I. Stravinsky’s ballet music cycle: Histoire du Soldat (2007), Petrushka (2009), The Firebird (2009).
Apart from the State Opera Chief Conductor Marian Vach and Conductor Igor Bulla is State Opera Orchestra performing under the lead of many excellent Conductors: Pavol Tužinský, Ondrej Lenárd (Chief Conductor of Shunsei Symphony Orchestra Tokyo), Ewald Körner (Switzerland), Anton Buranovský (Chief Conductor of orchestra in Pusan - Korea), Harvey Bordowitz (Israel), Dušan Štefánek (SND Bratislava), Rastislav Štúr (SND Bratislava), Mirko Krajči and others.
